The power of having a support system when striving toward any major accomplishment cannot be overstated. Beginning on day one of SEAL training, the importance of the swim buddy team is emphasized. Teams collaborate in every phase of training, from cleaning and eating to swimming and shooting. We even went to the bathroom as a team! The smallest SEAL unit, which serves as the basis for the larger teams, is made up of two swim buddies.
Having your buds there with you every step of the way makes any task much more manageable than going solo. That’s why I believe so strongly in the power of our new GoalBud app. During a blizzard at Everest Base Camp, I was the swim buddy of the app’s co-founder while he scaled Mt. Everest, and GoalBud’s prototype was built inside a tent! The app is now live in your app store, and my previous posts describe how this system works and why it’s so effective.
Make a Goal: The First Step in the GoalBud Process
The first step in achieving any goal is putting it down on paper. This simple act helps you to clearly define what it is that you want to accomplish, which makes it much easier for you and your team to stay focused on working towards that goal. When making this list of goals, try breaking them up into smaller achievable pieces that can be completed one at a time, as this will make them more manageable and less overwhelming. Having smaller milestones along the way also helps keep you motivated and focused on success!
Build a Goal Team: The Second Step in the GoalBud Process
Once you have determined your goals, it is important to find people who are willing to join your team and work together toward achieving them. Not only does having multiple minds working together help brainstorm creative solutions, but it also helps build trust among teammates which is essential for long-term success. When creating your team think about who has similar interests or skillsets as yourself, as well as members who can provide different perspectives or offer valuable insight into areas that may be unfamiliar or challenging for you.
Create Goal Commitments: The Third Step in the GoalBud Process
With your team formed, each member should commit to taking action every day towards achieving the goal set out in step one. This daily commitment can come in the form of reporting back with progress updates from each teammate or by communicating ideas for how they think the team could move forward faster or more efficiently. Each day should end with a check-in from all members so that everyone stays accountable for their part in reaching the final destination—success! With consistent communication, collaboration, and dedication from all members, reaching success becomes significantly easier and more enjoyable than going at it alone!
